I normally change my own oil. With a car that is under warranty I let the dealership do it. I know it's not required, but I always feel it looks better to the manufacturer for warranty purposes.

I've been using this VW dealer since the one closest to me changed to a Toyota dealership a few years back. I had never had a good experience with the first dealership. They fit the term "stealership" perfectly. Never doing what I asked the first time, and always trying to sell me some bullshit. "We recommend the injectors get cleaned, looks like you need an alignment, and an air filter."

My response:

"The fuck you on about? The car has 10k miles on it."

Anyways. Second dealership has been mostly trouble free. Never fed me any bullshit, did exactly what I asked. The few times they did recommend something additional it was legitimate and not snake oil. That leads me to the second to last oil change. They said they needed to replace the drain plug because it was stripped. No charge. I didn't say anything, but thought to myself if one side is stripped the other usually is as well. We'll see what happens next time.

Last oil change. "The plug was stripped so we had to replace it." I pointed out they did that the last time and that the pan must surely be stripped as well. Sure enough it was dripping from plug. I said, if they can re-tap the threads, fine. I'm checking it weekly for dripping and no issues. That is until last week. Maybe it was the sudden temperature drop, but it started leaking from the plug again.

I called them up Wednesday and they had me bring it by this morning. Being that I work in a customer service oriented industry, when I'm the customer I always try to let them make the right decision without me telling them what needs to be done. I explained what happened and demanded nothing of them, though a new oil pan at no charge was the only thing I was going to accept. And that is exactly what they did. They apologized and admitted fault and did the right thing without me having to be an asshole.

That is good customer service and more importantly good business ethics. Best dealership service area ever. Their salesman are assholes though.

If you made it this far, thanks. Now I'm going to play some GT6.

To be fair, most cars aren't aligned well from the factory. No joke. They're sorta eyeballed, and those first few miles shake everything loose. there's no excuse for the stripped plug, though.
